ESL Teacher Training to Canada

ESL teacher training in Canada

Worantex (Thailand) is proudly starting its new ESL teacher training opportunity aiming at developing better teaching methods within the Thai education system. Applications toward March & April  school break are accepted right now.

Worantex is in contact with ESL training centers in Canada that welcome groups of Thai ESL teachers (English teachers) for full time training sessions which are to take place during the Thai school break in March & April and for a period of three to eight weeks.

Worantex (Thailand) as now not only great programs for University & high school students, but also for teachers.

Those ESL teachers’ trainings are programs offered to current Thai English teachers that would like to develop better teaching methods, work on their confidence and, most of all, practice their English pronunciation aptitudes. Teaching experience and a Bachelor’s degree are to be needed in order for teachers to be qualified in being part in the program which will lead to a certificate issued by an accredited Canadian school board. Prior knowledge of the English language is also required.

The Thai school breaks being in march and April, those programs are to be concentrated in short term trainings and conducted in groups of about 15 persons. Worantex is to organize for groups so it does not matter if a school is interested in sending only a single teacher.

Where shall the placed Thai teacher live? The training aiming at developing better language aptitude, every teacher being part in the program is to be placed in a Canadian host family which will enhance opportunities for language practice. Possibility of being placed in pairs are available upon request.

Where are those immersion programs organized? In partnership with Interested and qualified school boards and language centers in the region of Victoria and Vancouver in

British Columbia.

What kind of schedule? Those practical trainings are to be conducted on a full-time basis, which means five days a week from 9 AM to 3-4 PM.

Tours and activities are also to be included.

We sincerely believe that these opportunities could benefit not only the students whom are to receive better education, but also the teachers and schools themselves. Upon English teachers and schools being interested, Worantex would gladly develop an easy and understanding way for the program fees to be paid.

This introduction being done, we are welcoming any ESL teacher or school member to contact us personally in order to be presented with the training details, schools’ areas and personal assistance.

Surrey school district:
TEFL Professional Development Program

for International Teachers

This program is divided into four sections:

1.       Introductory and concluding activities

2.       The Communicative Approach

3.       Reading/Writing

4.       Speaking/Listening

The aim of this program is to provide visiting teachers an opportunity to improve their language and teaching skills in an English immersion environment.  The weekdays will be divided between classroom sessions, cultural activities and outings, and relationships with school district teachers in local middle and secondary schools.  Groups of participants may have more than one instructor over the course of the one-month program to allow exposure to a range of styles and teaching techniques.

Each class will begin with a review of the previous day’s assignment and an introduction to the theory and practice of the new topic.  Participants will take notes, do short assignments, participate in activities to practice language skills, practice teaching techniques modeled by the instructor, and teach micro-lessons.  On most evenings there will be assignments, due the following morning.  In addition, participants will keep a learning journal which they will share with the instructor.  Wherever possible we will develop resources and lesson plans to use in conjunction with texts currently used by teachers.

Pairs of participants will spend at least two afternoons in the class of a school district teacher partner in either a middle or secondary school.  They will have the opportunity to observe classes.  Depending on the school, some opportunities may exist to tutor students, design and deliver teaching sessions and/or take part in school activities.

Evenings and weekends provide the opportunity to visit with homestay families or participate in local formal and informal activities.  The program will include two cultural day-tours.

At the completion of the course, the participants will have:

·         notebooks of information on teaching methodology and sample lessons

·         information and materials on Canadian culture

·         learning journals

·         lists of internet and commercial learning resources

·         certificate of completion 100 hours of instruction
