The H2B visa is available for foreign non-professional (unskilled) employees. The most popular types of employers are: hotels, restaurants, amusement parks, golf clubs, ski resorts ( waiters, dishwashers, servers, cooks, ride operators, cleaners etc.. not available in agricultural fields. This visa is only available for work that is temporary in nature.
For H2B purposes, that means: recurring seasonal need, intermittent need, peak-load need; and, one time occurrence.
Generally the length of employment offered by American employers varies from 4 months to 12 months and depends on the approval of immigration authorities, On average, the length of employment offered by U.S. consulat officials is 9 months, however, international workers are allowed to extend their visas while in U.S. for a maximum period of 2years.
Seasonal workers may apply for extension of their H2B visas twice during their stay in U.S. In order to do so foreign workers need to have an employer who would be able to sponsor their visa. The H2B visa extensions can be made only twice and this can be done with our american sponsor partner.
